Leonard S. Sandbothe

Leonard S. Sandbothe, 92, of Boonville, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Mr. Sandbothe was born on January 13, 1925, in Nevada, Missouri. He was the son of Alex Sandbothe and Cecelia Mary (Bax) of Koeltztown, Mo. He married Ann Rose Ward on March 13, 1945, who died on August 23, 1974. He then married Mary Margaret (Hunter) on June 12, 1976, and she died January 22, 1997. He then married Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann (Schwartz) on November 1, 1997. He worked on the MKT Railroad as a fireman for 20 years. Beginning in 1956 he also ran the Katy Hotel and Lunchroom in Franklin, Mo. In 1959, he had his family moved to New Franklin, Mo. and bought and ran the Solomon's Coffee Shop. In 1961 Leonard opened Sandy's Café in downtown New Franklin. After fire destroyed Sandy's Café, he worked for the University of Missouri as a police officer. In 1976, he and his wife Mary Margaret, ran the Boonville Daily Express for 15 years, delivering medical supplies and drugs to hospitals and pharmacies within Missouri from New Franklin. Mr. Sandbothe lived in Howard County for 40 years. Mr. Sandbothe was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he was a Communion Minister and greeter for many years. He was also a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 1061, of Boonville, Mo. He was also a woodworker and avid Cardinals supporter. He is survived, in addition to his wife Betty of the home, by two sons, Steve Sandbothe of Boonville, Mo. and Rod Sandbothe and his wife Sherri of California, Mo.; two nephews, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Leonard Sandbothe was preceded in death by his mother and father; one brother, Herman Victor Sandbothe of Montgomery, N.Y.; his son, Joe Sandbothe and daughter-in-law Brenda, both of Boonville, Mo.; and one sister, Dorothy Agnes Sam Davis of Macks Creek, Mo. Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 20 at S.S. Peter and Paul Church with Fr. Bill Peckman officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Clark's Chapel Cemetery in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances are requested to the Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
