Rometta Lee Wegman, 92, of Jefferson City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Jefferson City Manor, peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on July 4, 1925 in Cedar City, Missouri, the daughter of Montie Paul and Katie Merle (Steinmetz) Bugbee, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on April 21, 1945 in Fulton, Missouri to Robert Charles Wegman, who preceded her in death. She was a 1944 graduate of Sikeston High School in Sikeston, Missouri. She worked for Tweddie's Defense Factory during World War II, sewing the zippers on the soldier's uniforms. She then worked for the Missouri Department of Agriculture as a Seed Analyst until her retirement in 1987. During World War II, she lived near Sikeston Military Base where her mother would sew the uniform shirts for the military men. When they came to the house, she would pencil sketch their faces for them to send back home to their families. She and her husband, Robert, built with their own hands, a family cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, which is still in the family today. They enjoyed fishing together and everyone who visited their cabin. She enjoyed reading and researching family genealogy. Rometta had a love of science and knowledge, she never stopped learning. She was adored by her family and the memories they made together will be forever cherished and loved. She is survived by one daughter: Gayla (Jerel) Scott of Jefferson City; one son-in-law: Larry Northway; one sister: Delilah (Raymond) Beck of Columbia; six grandchildren: Jodi (Russ) Barnthouse, Kristie (Kevin) Colvin, Blake Northway, Jason (Jennifer) McDonald, Brice (Brittney) McDonald, and Abbie (Mike) McFerron; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
