Velma D. Hensley, 91, of Jefferson City, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at her daughter's residence. She was born May 22, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter to the late Destin and Susie (Altis) Alexander. On March 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to William H. Hensley Jr. in Tacoma, Washington, who preceded her in death on March 13, 2004. Velma attended Shawnee Mission High School in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, a lifetime Eastern Star and was a Lioness with the Jefferson City Host Lions Club. Velma worked as a clerk at Dallmeyer Jewelery, retiring after 35 years of service. She enjoyed crafts, painting and macramé. She is survived by her daughters: Patricia Sanders (husband Robert) of Stover, Joanne Weislocher of Jefferson City, Judy E. Roberts of West Plains; grandchildren: David Hendrix, Scott Hendrix, Curtis Roberts and Jessica Roberts; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Dale Weislocher and grandson: Christopher Bodine. Family and friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. October 19, 2017, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Baptist Church in Jefferson City.
