Raymond F. Schmidt, 76, of St. Thomas, Mo. died Saturday June 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 10, 1941 in St. Thomas, Mo., a son of Frank and Clara (Haselhorst) Schmidt, both deceased. He was married November 4, 1961 to Harriet Werner, who survives at the home. A resident of central Missouri for the majority of his life, Ray enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard in August 1959, and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in May 2001. Ray was a 1959 graduate of Fatima High School at Westphalia. Throughout his extensive 41 year career he worked with the Nike Hercules System and worked at the MOARNG Combined Support Maintenance Shop. He retired as the Electronics Supervisor. Ray enjoyed flying radio control aircraft and later using "real flight simulators" on the computer. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was also a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association, and the local area II Retired Chapter of the MOARNG and American Legion Post 5. Ray also served multiple terms as a member of the Cole County Public Water District #5, and enjoyed helping his cousin work on the turkey farm close to where he was raised. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading and tinkering with small engines as well as spending time working in the garden and riding his four-wheeler. Ray loved spending time with his friends, family and was especially devoted to his grandchildren who were the light of his eyes. Survivors include his wife Harriet of 55 years, one son: Jeffery (Carla) of Jefferson City; two daughters: Pamela Regan (Peter) of Jefferson City and Cynthia Jones (David) of New Bloomfield; one brother: Ronald Schmidt (Sharon), six sisters: Mary Ann Fennewald of Meta, Joann Bax (Edward) of O'Fallon, Linda Schmidt of Jefferson City, Alice Reinke (David) of Camdenton, Susan Schmidt of Battlefield and Judith Howlett (John) of Richland, Washington; two grandsons: Ethan Regan (Erin) and Levi Regan, both of Jefferson City; and one granddaughter: Emma Jones of New Bloomfield. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph Schmidt, Steven Schmidt and Roger Schmidt; brother-in-law: Patrick Fennewald; and sister-in-law: Marilyn Schmidt. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday June 27, 2017 at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Reverend Gerald Scheperle officiating. Graveside service with Military Honors will be at Riverview Cemetery. Entombment will follow at cemetery mausoleum.
