John F. Hehmeyer

John F. Hehmeyer, 90, of Jefferson City, Mo., and formerly of Hannibal, Mo., passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City, Mo. John was born May 26, 1927, in Hannibal, Mo. to Walter H. and Flora M. Schnitzer Hehmeyer. He was married to Mary Frances Carter on December 30, 1948 in Hannibal, Mo. She survives. John was a graduate of Hannibal High School. He later served in the United States Navy, serving his country proudly during World War II. John enjoyed a long career with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 40 years. John enjoyed gardening, which included growing vegetables and a variety of flowers. He also constantly was working on home improvement projects around the house. Bus trips with his wife, Mary Frances, across the country were always enjoyed. Most of all John cherished his family and treasured the moments they shared together. John was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Mo. Other survivors include three children, Linda Shields (Greg) of Jefferson City, Mo., Phyllis Torrey (Pete) of Kansas City, Kan., John Hehmeyer (Diane) of Ballwin, Mo.; five grandchildren, William Simms (Jennifer), Matthew Simms, Emily Julian (Buck), Lisa Buss (Matt), and Sarah Hehmeyer; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Jason Torrey; three brothers, Russell W. Hehmeyer, Robert Hehmeyer, and Paul Hehmeyer; and two sisters, Jeanette Spilker and Anna Ruth Genovese. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Mo. Burial with Full Military Rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo. Friends and family are invited to John's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo.
