Lewis George "Pat" Hemphill, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Pat was born on May 17, 1928, at home in Clay County, the son of George and Myrtle (Berrier) Hemphill. He grew up in the Broughton area and graduated high school in Clay Center. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Delores (Nemnich), January 2, 1949, in Clay Center, Kan. Pat farmed the Hemphill homestead for many years and was a small business owner in Columbia, Mo. Pat enjoyed sports and was a multiple gold medalist at the 1988 and 1989 Senior Missouri Show-Me State Games. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and lawncare. Pat is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Debbie (David) Hall of El Dorado, Kan. and Sue (Galen) Jackson of Wichita, Kan. and two sons, Brian (Natalie) Hemphill of Clay Center, Kan. and Brent (Deanna) Hemphill of Jefferson City, Mo. Grandchildren include Josh (Amy) Hall and Justin Hall of El Dorado, Kan., Ryan (Kristy) Jackson and Derek Jackson of Wichita, Kan., Brett Hemphill, William Hemphill, and granddaughter, Landrie Hemphill, step-grandchildren Daniel Merica of Clay Center, Kan., Garrett Bentlage and Madelyn Fisher of Jefferson City, Mo. Great-grandchildren include Paxton and Harper Hall of El Dorado, Kan. His parents and two brothers, Bluford and Frank Hemphill, preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, Mo. Visitation in Clay Center will be Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home from 3-7 p.m. Celebration of Pat's Life will be at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kan. at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 20, with burial following the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kan. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Clay Center, Kan., in care of the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 7th St. Clay Center KS, or the Community Living Center at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia, Mo. in care of Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, Mo.
