Glen R. Johnston

Glen R. Johnston, 79, of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, at his residence. He was born March 21, 1938, in West Frankfort, Ill., son of the late Nelson and Mona (Spencer) Johnston. He was united in marriage in 1967, to Virginia Lee Lavish, who preceded him in death in 1989. Glen was a 1956 graduate of Frankfort Community High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he was on the National Championship ROTC rifle team. He served his country in the United States Army and was on the Rifle Team. He worked as a Substation Electrician Troubleman for over 30 years with CIPS in Marion, Ill. and was a member of the IBEW #702 in West Frankfort, Ill. Glen was a Gold Chipper for the Frankfort Community High School, was a volunteer team host for the mid-winter classic tournament, won the Tom McKie Award in 1997 and was the Grand Marshall for the Homecoming Parade in 2002. He was a Mason at Frankfort Lodge #567 and past Master of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Patton Commandery #69, Knights Templar, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Royal Arch Mason of Illinois #160 R.A.M in Mt. Vernon, Ill., Shriners Ainad Temple of East St. Louis, Mo. where he was known as "Satch" in the Krazy Klowns. He was also a member of the American Legion Lodge #2910 in Bloomington, Ill., a 35 year member of the National Hot Rod Association, national record holder and national record holder retired. Glen loved all sports particularly the Red Birds; both the West Frankfort Red Birds and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. He enjoyed a good meal, telling stories and especially loved seeing his grandkids. Glen is survived by his daughter: Glenda Morrow and husband, Jason of Belleville, Ill.; his son: Greg Johnston and wife Patricia Churchill of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren: Jenny, Jacob and Julia Morrow; and his long time companion and friend; Sandra Ford of West Frankfort, Ill.; as well as numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017,at 11:00 a.m. at Denning Cemetery, West Frankfort, Ill. A Celebration of Glen's life will follow at The Franklin County Country Club from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. to remember all the good times spent with Glen. All are welcome to attend the services and celebration. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Christian Church, 1001 S.
