Velma M. Huesgen, age 82, Jefferson City, formerly of Frankenstein, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Velma was born on September 12, 1934, in Aud, Missouri, a daughter to the late William and Marie (Vehlewald) Shelley. In 1996, Velma was united in marriage to Charles "Charley" Huesgen. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2013. Those left to mourn her passing are: her daughter, Janice Sloca and her husband Paul of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Tracie (Curtis) Schwoeppe of Marthasville, Curtis (Deann) Wieberg of Westphalia, and Shelley Sloca and friend Greg Brock of Kodak, Tenn.; a great-grandson, Lucas Schwoeppe; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Wieberg; two sisters, Irene (Rick) Grothoff of Jefferson City and Marcella (Bob) Sturdavant of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Clarence (Majorie) Shelley of Linn and Ken (Margie) Shelley of Loose Creek and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to Velma's parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by: an infant grandson, Travis Wieberg; a brother, William Shelley Jr.; a sister, Ida Stewart; a nephew, Kenneth Grothoff; and a brother-in-law, Ben Stewart. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Daniel Merz as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in Velma's name to SSM Health Hospice and Home Health Foundation, 12312 Olive Blvd., Suite 400, St. Louis 63141; Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church; or Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery Fund.
