Virginia C. Wissehr, 96, St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Norman R. Wissehr Feb 23, 1941. A devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Virginia was always active in her churches: St. Paul United Church of Christ, Waterloo, Illinois; Central United Church of Christ, Jefferson City, Missouri; Faith United Church of Christ, Webster Groves, Missouri; Immanuel Congregational Church, St. Louis, Missouri; and Zion United Church of Christ, St. Joseph, Missouri. She played an active role in her husbands studies at Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, Missouri, and in the two churches he served for 20 years, Faith United Church of Christ, Webster Groves, Missouri, and Immanuel Congregational Church, St. Louis, Missouri. They had a joint ministry. Virginia was an active participant in The Camps Farthest Out for over 30 years as a song leader and speaker. She was active in Church Women United as a member and in leadership positions for over 30 years. For many years, she was a youth group leader and an active member of many church circles. She was always visiting church members who were shut-ins or in the hospital. She is survived by her sons, Mark H. Wissehr and wife Rebecca of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Kurt R. Wissehr and wife Helen of Dunlap, Tennessee; grandchildren David Wissehr, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Rebecca Howell and husband Jordan and great-grandson, Leo Norman Howell, of Wilmington, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Norman R. Wissehr, her parents Theodore and Emma Goeddel, her brother Harold Goeddel, and her grandson John Wissehr. Celebration of Life 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Zion United Church of Christ, St. Joseph, Missouri. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Virginia will be cremated under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial gifts to The Noyes Home for Children, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
