William "Bill" A. Markway, 85, of Westphalia, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Westphalia Hills. He was born on August 14, 1931, in Jefferson City, a son of Fred and Leona (Prenger) Markway, both of whom preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on July 4, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia to Alice C. Temmen, who survives at the home. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, and was a past president of the Lions Club. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Peter High School in Jefferson City and played on the football team. He loved to go on hunting trips in several states as well as hunting for moose and fishing in Canada. He was very proud of his garden. He enjoyed picking out walnuts and pecans, scratching off lottery tickets and was an avid Royals Baseball fan. Bill loved spending time with his family and loved to give his grandkids rides on the gator. Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his children: Leon Markway (Mary) of Freeburg, Linda Massman (Doug) of Westphalia, Stanley Markway (Ruth) of Westphalia, Lori Markway of Westphalia, Joe Markway (Carol) of Freeburg, Kathy Luebbering (Steve) of Freeburg, Karen Reinkemeyer (Dave) of Westphalia; siblings: Harold Markway of Jefferson City, Lillian Veit and Fred Markway (Jo Ann), both of Wardsville; sister-in-law: Pauline Markway of Wardsville; grandchildren: Kevin Markway, Keith Markway, Travis Massman, Curtis Reinkemeyer, Jared Markway, Nolan Markway, Ryan Markway, Kerry Powell, Sarah Peters, Lindsey Luebbering, Haley Luebbering, Ashley Reinkemeyer, Megan Markway; great-grandchildren: Alexis Powell, Journey Markway, Paisley Markway, Carter Peters, Chandler Peters, Penelope Massman, Skyler Powell, Kellen Markway and the ninth one on the way. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Charles and Lawrence Markway; sister-in-law: Mary Markway; and brother-in-law: Francis Veit. Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Westphalia, with a Prayer Service to be held at 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, with Father Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School in Westphalia.
