Shelby Jean Wilkerson, 77 of California, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Jean was born August 23, 1939, the daughter of Dewey Lee and Nettie Brown Eskew in Freda, Arkansas. In 1958, she married J. W. Wilkerson in Belle City, Missouri. With Jean's support, J.W. pastored several churches around Missouri including: Montier, Farmington, East Prairie, Summerville, and finally settling down in California, Missouri in 1983. For many years she was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy, attending First Assembly of God Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was happy to serve as a Project Share volunteer, and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hatters Club. She was a wonderful quilter, making many throughout her life, but her favorites might have been the 18 she uniquely created for each of her sons and grandchildren. Most of all, she will be remembered for being a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; sharing her many talents and love over the years. Jean is survived by her four sons: James Edward Wilkerson (and wife Marla) of California, Missouri, David Dewayne Wilkerson of Memphis, Tennessee, Clifford Gene Wilkerson (and wife Rose) of California, Missouri, and Timothy Allen Wilkerson (and wife Cynthia) of California, Missouri; one brother: Jim Eskew (and wife Tula) of Morley, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her dog: Cuddles. She is preceded in death by her parents: Dewey and Nettie; and Husband: J.W. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Windmill Ridge Funeral Home in California, Missouri. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the services at California City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The ALS Association Mid-America Chapter, 6950 Squibb Road - Suite 210 - Mission, KS 66202.
