Mr. Gary William Ronimous, age 69 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Gary was born November 21, 1946 in Moberly, Mo., the son of Clarence William and Elsie Jean (Perkins) Ronimous. He was married on May 12, 1969, in Hannibal, Mo. to Diane Pflum, who he had dated since high school. While in Hannibal, Gary was active in Boy Scouting earning the prestigious Eagle Scout Award in 1962. As an adult he was active in all scouting, as a leader in Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts. He also was the Missouri State Newspaper Carrier in 1960. A 1964 graduate of Hannibal High School and a 1966 graduate of Hannibal LaGrange University with a Associate of Commerce Degree. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, Mo. in 1968, with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration. He later graduated from the Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Gary served as a Chief Petty Officer with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict on the U.S.S. Meyerkord. Gary made three WestPac deployments, to Vietnam. He was discharged in February, 1976, and enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves and served until 2000. He served in three reserve centers in Hannibal, Kansas City, and St. Louis and made numerous two-week deployments to many ships ranging from Destroyers, Assault Carriers, and Amphibious ships. He began his professional career in banking in 1976, with the Missouri Division of Finance as an Assistant Bank Examiner in Hannibal. In 1979, he was promoted to Commissioned Bank Examiner. In 1982, he was transferred to the Division of Finance office in Jefferson City until his retirement in 2002. During his retirement he worked as a Consultant with the Missouri Division of Finance and in 2008, at the request of a colleague, he accepted a position to be a Loan Review Officer with Hawthorn Bank. He enjoyed his time at Hawthorn Bank until ill health forced him to retire in 2016. Gary enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, quilting, home remodeling, and building model ships. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Diane Ronimous; two sons, Jason William Ronimous of Greenwood, Indiana and Michael Jay Ronimous and his wife Tiffany of McHenry, Illinois; two brothers, Larry Jay Ronimous and his wife Lana of Estero, Florida and Marvin Wayne Ronimous and his wife Mary of Monett, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Jakob William Ronimous, Jordan Anne Ronimous, and Haleigh Grace Ronimous. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Heber Mena officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
