Floyd Kemp, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, after a brief stay in the hospital. Floyd passed from this life to be with the Lord at the home of his daughter Stacy, in the presence of friends and family who loved him dearly. He was born in Tebbetts, Mo., on March 15, 1932, son of the late Otis Henry and Lenora Delphia (Rogers) Kemp. Floyd fell in love and married Ruby Pauline Jenkins Kemp on April 2, 1955. Together they raised four children, William (Billy) Floyd Kemp, Nora Sue McCann, David Wayne Kemp and Jerry Lee Kemp. Ruby Kemp preceded Floyd in death on July 29, 1986. Floyd was blessed to find love again with Leona (Wright) Keener and remarried on December 26, 1987, adding two daughters, Stacy Henderson and Monica Keener Eads, to his loving family. Leona preceded him in death on August 20, 2014. Floyd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He rarely shared stories about his service other than his feet were perpetually cold. Floyd was affectionately known as "Uncle Tooter." He was a talented musician, having played guitar and fiddle, both by ear. Floyd won many awards and was very proud to have played with family including his siblings, twin-nieces, traditional fiddler - Taylor McBaine of Columbia, Mo., and Grandpa Jones of the Grand 'Ole Opry. Greater than his love for music was his love of and dedication to his family. Floyd was happiest when his home was filled with his family, who will miss his ornery sense of humor and big heart. Floyd was employed by A.P. Green Refractories in Mexico, Mo., for 38 years and nine months. Floyd was a member of Westview Missionary Baptist Church in Jefferson City. Floyd resided at Castleparke Retirement Campus west of Jefferson City. After retiring, he became friends with several families of the Mennonite faith and enjoyed driving them in travel locally and across country for several years. He is survived by five children, Nora McCann of Phoenix, Ariz., David Kemp and wife Denise of Vandalia, Jerry Kemp and wife Shanna of Davis, Okla., Stacy Henderson and husband Jason of Jefferson City, and Monica Eads and husband John of Lee's Summit; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Pulley and husband Courtney, DeLisa Totton and husband Thomas, Thomas Kemp and wife Lindsay, Riley Kemp, Allison Henderson, Adrienne Henderson, Sara Schatz, Rhinnon Schatz, Sophia Eads, Kinsley Eads, Liam Eads, and Mattie April Miller; nine great-grandchildren, Ciara Carter, Ruby Totton, Caitlyn Kemp, Hannah Kemp, Justin Kemp, Jamie Schafer, Rebecca Barnes, Michael Lewis, Weslie McWilliams; two brothers, Carl Kemp and Robert "Bob" Kemp; daughter-in-law, Marvetta Hunt; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
