Mrs. Frances Ellen Duzan Herndon, age 94 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Adams Street Place, surrounded by her family. Frances was born August 19, 1921 in Barnett, Mo., the daughter of Gomer and Mary M. Roberts Duzan. She was married on May 23, 1948 in Linn, Mo., to Charles R. "Dick" Herndon, who preceded her in death on May 25, 2005. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Frances graduated from Barnett Public Schools, the Iberia Junior College, and received a B.S. in Education with a major in music from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Mo. Frances was a music teacher at several schools, including Stover, the School of the Ozarks, Linn, Glasgow, Slater, and Miami, Arizona for several years. While her children were younger, she was a homemaker and when they reached school years, she worked with the Missouri L.P. Gas Association for 15 years until her retirement. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jefferson City where she was the organist for 15 years. She worked in the L.D.S. Family History Center and for over seven years, she worked each Saturday in the St. Louis Temple. Frances loved researching genealogy and was an avid reader. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family. Survivors include: one son, Steven Herndon and his wife Tabitha of Holts Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Gretchen Herndon of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Zachary Herndon and Amanda Herndon, both of Holts Summit, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Stiesmeyer, Jane Herndon, and Betty Herndon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Wallace Duzan, who was killed in action during World War II. Visitation will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Durk Merrell officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Linn Memorial Park in Linn, Mo.
