Raymond Herigon

Raymond (Ray) Herigon, age 93, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016, at Castleparke in Jefferson City. He was born in St. Thomas on July 14, 1922, son of the late Theodore and Sophie (Prenger) Herigon. On May 29, 1943, in Biehle, he married Marcella Wibbenmeyer, who preceded him in death on January 8, 2014. Ray served in the United States Army during World War II. He was one of the thousands of soldiers to invade the shores of Normandy and was also in the Battle of the Bulge. For his honorable and courageous service he received two Bronze Stars and the French Foreign Legion Medal of Honor. Ray was able to participate in the Honor Flight #4. After the war Ray was employed with various companies including Delongs for 18 years, was Maintenance Supervisor at McGraw Edison, Shop Smith, and was also employed at Sonitrol. Ray was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and currently attended St. Martin Catholic Church. He is survived by 11 children, Carol Pendleton and husband Carthel of Columbia, Patricia Luebbering and husband Andy of St. Thomas, Jerry Herigon and wife Pat of Jefferson City, Dorothy Fenton and husband Bill of Harrisburg, Thomas Herigon and wife Dianne of Jefferson City, Dale Herigon and wife Marilyn of St. Thomas, Dave Herigon and wife Linda of Iberia, Grace Schwartz and husband Larry of Freeburg, Jeff Herigon and wife Barbara of Bonnots Mill, Charlie Herigon of Taos, and Doug Herigon and wife Kathy of Lohman; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Veronica Herigon; one great-grandson, Bradey Luebbering; one brother, Sam Herigon; and one infant sister, Florence Herigon. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. Fr. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held at the St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus and Palliative Care or to the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
