Joyce Castrop

Mrs. Joyce Ivana Castrop, age 83 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on May 14, 1932, in Sedalia, Mo., a daughter of Ivan and Clytie (Harris) Hopkins. She was raised by her grandparents, W.C. and Margret (Hunter) Acock. She was first married to Charles A. Bailey on October 18, 1952, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1957. She was later married to Elmer Castrop on June 23, 1968, in Jefferson City, Mo. Joyce moved to Jefferson City with her grandparents in 1939 and was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She was active in the JCHS Class of 50 reunion committee being the reunion chairwoman for over 20 years. She was employed at the Registers Office at Lincoln University for 12 years until her retirement in 1998. Before her time with Lincoln University, Joyce had worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue Driver's License Bureau, Nebel Motors and McKay Buick. Joyce was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and always a faithful prayer warrior. She enjoyed her time teaching Sunday school at the church and at the Mission. She was active in the Adult 7 Sunday School Department, Robinsons Bible Study, was an ambassador for shut-in and hospital ministries. She was also a past member of the Red Hat Society. Joyce loved life and living her faith. She cherished time with her family, friends, and her beloved cats. She enjoyed traveling, her card club, reading, and playing dominos. Survivors include: her husband of 47 years, Elmer Castrop; two sons, Charles Andrew "Drew" Bailey Jr. (wife Phillis) of Troy, Ill. and Thomas I. Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Rita Roberts-Sanderson (husband Doug) of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, John Bailey, Janet Alexander, Jeremy Bailey, Shaheen Motlagh, Ammy Sanderson, Jenifer Duncan, Margaret Sherman, LaVern Sanderson, Lara Porter and Aylah Sanderson; 31 great-grandchildren, and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and special friends, too many to name - you know who you are. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at the First Baptist Church A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Private graveside service and inurnment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church, 301 E.
