Mrs. Doris Jean Rutledge, age 92, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away late Friday evening, June 24, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 29, 1924, in Macon, Mo., the daughter of Webster W. Brammer and Carrie A. (Sexton) Brammer. She was married on November 1, 1942, in Fulton, Mo. to Robert E. "Babe" Rutledge who preceded her in death on April 21, 2005. Doris was a lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area. During World War II, she assembled airplanes and was part of the generation known as "Rosie the Riveter". She was a waitress at various restaurants in Jefferson City. Jean provided daycare in her home and was fondly known as "Grandma Jean" to many. She also raised her own grandchildren whom she loved dearly and enjoyed having at her home daily. She attended First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed antique browsing and shopping, working in her garden, and was most known for brownies that she baked regularly. She loved her family and truly enjoyed time with them at Christmas, which was her favorite holiday. She is survived by her three sons, David J. Rutledge and his wife Norma of Jefferson City, Mo., Daniel L. Rutledge and his wife Deede of Ft. Myers, Fla., Robert M. "Mitch" Rutledge and his significant other Gina Glass of Pomona, Calif.; one daughter, Carrie Sue Kirtley and her husband Bill of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Betty Rutledge of Jefferson City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Webster and Carrie Brammer; her husband, Robert E. "Babe" Rutledge; one son, Richard A. Rutledge; a brother, Robert Brammer; and one sister, Francis "Tige" Biritz. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Freeman Mortuary. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Ken Harland officiating. Interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Samaritan Center or SSM Hospice.
