Donald James Graessle, 88, of Lenexa, Kan., formerly of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Greenwood Terrace, Senior Living and Retirement Community. He was born on September 27, 1927, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Louis H. and Lydia (Stockman) Graessle. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1954, at St. Peter Catholic Church, to Mary Louise Neutzler. She preceded him in death in 2007. He attended St. Peter's Grade School and High School and was a graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia. Don proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the Missouri State Highway Department as a Civil Engineer in the Bridge Division for 33 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a Professional Engineer member, as well as a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Don was a faithful member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Donna Graessle (Dr. Siamak Haghnegahdar) of Shawnee, Kan., Jeanne Prenger (Ron) of Springfield, Dr. Dale Graessle (Dr. Carol Kinoshita) of Bedford, Mass., Ellen DeShon (Max) of Lenexa, Kan., Glenn Graessle (Gina Chaverri) of Olathe, Kan., Beth Graessle (Eiken) of O'Fallon; brothers, Tom Graessle (Agnes) of Taos, Jack Graessle (Mary) of Eldon; sisters, Mary Brandt (Urban) of Jefferson City, Helen Odendahl of St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Along with his parents and wife, Mary Louise, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Stuart Eiken, and five siblings. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Cesar Anicama officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
