Raymond John Kleffner, 93, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Heisinger Bluffs. He was born on April 7, 1923, in Primrose, Nebraska, the son of Aloys L. and Regina G. (Brockwinkle) Kleffner. He was married on May 29, 1948, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos to Irma Ann Leigers. Ray attended school in rural Nebraska and Osage County, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy from April 1941 to December 1946. Upon returning from active duty he was employed by the Missouri Department of Conservation for four years. Thereafter he was self-employed with his last venture being owner/operator of Brummett Radiator Service for over 30 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2693, founding member of United Sportsmens Club, charter member of JC Evening Lions Club, and Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. Ray enjoyed fishing, skeet shooting, hunting, golf and traveling. He particularly enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, salmon fishing in Alaska, spending time at their century farm on Shamrock Road, watching a good football or baseball game or a championship round of golf. Ray never met a stranger and was always generous with his resources and time for family and friends. He is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Irma; one daughter, Linda Kleffner Scrivner (Ron Sheely) of Jefferson City; one son, Roger Kleffner of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Alison Mooney Wade (Jared) of Jefferson City, Aaron Mooney (Adria Allen) of Columbia, Brent Kleffner of Jefferson City, and Erin Kleffner Edwards of Roeland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Courtney Schnieders of Quincy, Illinois, Alexander Oppenheim of Jefferson City, Kelsey Sandlin of Jefferson City, and Samuel Wade of Jefferson City; one brother, Donald Kleffner of Jefferson City; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Kleffner of Jefferson City, Dorothy Kleffner of Westphalia, Jeanne Kleffner of Half Moon Bay, California, Vickie Leigers of Jefferson City, and Yvonne Leigers of Jefferson City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers: Lawrence, Otto, Charles, Andrew, Clarence, Joseph, Walter and Alfred Kleffner; sisters-in-law: Edna Neuner, Nancy Kleffner; and brothers-in-law: Clarence Leigers, William Leigers and Albert Leigers. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with Fr. Ignazio Medina officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Heisinger Bluffs or charity of the donors choice.
