Mary E. Nacy

Mary E. Nacy, 89, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born March 13, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., a daughter of the late James M. and Kathleen (Kellett) Pendergast. On October 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Richard R. Nacy Jr. (known to his friends as "Chico") in Kansas City. In 1954, they moved to Jefferson City, where they made their home. Chico preceded her in death on March 20, 1994. Mary grew up in Kansas City surrounded by influential politicians of the day. She was a 1945 graduate of St. Teresa's Academy, and then a 1949 graduate of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Ind. Mary lived an exciting, full life. She loved gardening and enjoyed time with her dogs. She was an excellent cook and loved sharing food with others. She was extremely well-read and reading was her passion. While taking care of her children, Mary found time to become socially active in Jefferson City including, but not limited to, membership in the Hawthorne Garden Club and service on the board of the Missouri River Regional Library. She is survived by her children, Phillip Nacy of Cape Girardeau, James Nacy (Lea Ann) of Republic, Katie Nacy of Mary's Home, John Nacy (Kathy) of Jefferson City, William "Pete" Nacy (Nanette) of Jefferson City and Michael Nacy of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Michael, Steven, James, Jenna and Maggie; three great-grandchildren; and nephews, Joe, Jim, Bob Mike, and Bill Pruett. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard R. Nacy III; and her sister, Catherine Pruett (known to her friends as "Kank"), a lifelong Kansas City resident.
