Ralph H. Popp, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo., due to injuries sustained in a farming accident. He was born June 11, 1926, in Cole County, Mo., a son of the late Walter George and Helen Kathryn (Stroessner) Popp. He attended Ambrose One Room School near Brazito, and graduated from Eugene High School in Eugene, Mo. On August 10, 1947, Ralph was united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Honey Creek, to Irma Louise Sommerer, who preceded him in death on October 22, 2008. Ralph owned and operated Popp's Lawn & Garden Center in Jefferson City. He was also a lifetime farmer, specializing in cattle. Ralph loved to go to the Sale Barn, bowling, gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and his collection of Wheel Horse mowers over the years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in World War II from 1945 - 1946. Ralph is survived by a daughter, Lora Tipton (husband Barney) of Jefferson City; longtime adopted family, Scott and Gail Wolken and their children, Leon and Sadie all of Jefferson City; one brother, Roy Popp (wife Bonnie) of Mexico, Mo.; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Popp of Brazito; and godson, Roger Itner of Jefferson City. Ralph was also preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Popp and Lawrence Popp. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Friends will also be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Honey Creek. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Honey Creek, with Pastor Jeff Schanbacher officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery at Honey Creek. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School at Honey Creek.
