David "Dave" Lee Struemph, 66, of Freeburg, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born September 11, 1949, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Bernard and Rosalyn (Schroeder) Struemph. He was a 1967 graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia, and went on to graduate from Rolla Technical College in Rolla, Missouri. On April 9, 1983, Dave was united in marriage to Careen Schnieders, who survives at their home. Dave worked for the City of Freeburg for 40 years, until his retirement as Water and Street Superintendent. He was also a rural mail carrier in Freeburg for five years. Dave and Careen owned and operated the Corner Restaurant in Freeburg for eight years. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg; the Freeburg Lions Club; the American Legion-Paul A. Hasenbeck Post 317; and the Knights of Columbus Council 9700. Dave was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a former St. Louis Rams fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and loved to entertain his family and friends at his home. He also enjoyed barbecuing, and everyone always said he made the best hamburgers. Along with his wife Careen, Dave is also survived by three children: Shannon Struemph (Ralph) of Columbia, Andre Struemph (Kristen) of Freeburg, Amanda Struemph of Eldon; his mother-in-law: Dorothy Schnieders of California, Mo.; two brothers: Harry Struemph (Linda) of Freeburg and Gary Struemph (Nancy) of Jefferson City; four grandchildren: Abby Findley, Molly Struemph, Kate Struemph, and Alexandra Struemph; two brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother, his father-in-law: Alfred Schnieders, and his brother-in-law: Alan Irey. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, with a Prayer Service at 3:15 p.m. Friends will also be received from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, with Fr. Bill Debo officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Church Cemetery in Freeburg. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
