Dr. Sally B. Bodenhamer, age 37 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016. Sally was born on August 3, 1979 in Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of Dr. Frederick and Cheryl (Swicord) Bodenhamer. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Sally was a 1997 graduate of Jefferson City High School and later graduated with honors from the University of Missouri - Columbia with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy in 2001. She worked for several years with Capital Region Medical Center as an occupational therapist until she decided to follow her father's footsteps and become an optometrist. She received her Doctor of Optometry with honors from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After graduation Sally moved back to become part of her family practice. In June 2007 she became co-owner of Bodenhamer Eye Consultants working beside her father and brother. She also worked one day a week at the Community Health Center and loved being involved with their team and mission. Sally was blessed with a brilliant mind and used it to solve her patient's problems. She loved helping children and made life changing differences in their lives through eye care. This was recognized when she was selected as the Missouri Young Optometrist of the year in 2013. Sally was active within the optometry profession and served in numerous professional organizations. She was a member of the American Optometric Association and past president of Central Missouri Optometric Society. She served on the Administrative Services Committee for the Missouri Optometry Association. She was proud to be board certified by the American Board of Optometry and was a certified Diabetes Educator. She received the Southwest Contact Lens Society Award, the Heart of America Contact Lens Society Travel Fellowship and was a member of Women in Optometry. Sally was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She served our community by being a member of Rotary West, past member of Rotaract, and served on the board of governors with Capital Region. Sally loved her family and patients and they were the center of her life. She will be remembered for her huge heart and always willing to help others. She gained her greatest joy in seeing happiness in others and helping fulfill their dreams. She had a deep love of animals, especially Dalmatians, and looked for adventure outdoors with friends and family. She was always looking forward to hiking trips, canoe trips, and scuba diving on vacations. Survivors include: her parents, Dr. Fred and Cheryl Bodenhamer of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Laura Landwehr and her husband Louis of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Dr. Bret Bodenhamer and his wife Emma of Jefferson City, Mo.; her paternal grandmother, Marie Jones of Sedalia, Mo.; her aunt, Patsy Pettit and her husband Rick of Sedalia, Mo.; her nieces, Natalie and Nicole Landwehr of Jefferson City, Mo.; and her cousin, Barrett Sutton of Sedalia, Mo. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Allen Raymond Swicord and uncle, Chris Swicord. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016. A private funeral service will be conducted in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Daniel Hilty officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 2308 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
