Mr. Frank A. Sloan, age 84 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, August 18, 2016, at S.S.M. Health St. Mary's Hospital. Frank was born September 12, 1931 in Atlanta, Mo., the son of Sollie and Aleen Francis Sloan. He was married on May 16, 1953 in Kirksville, Mo. to Nellie D. McKenzie. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1953, Frank was a 1949 graduate of Atlanta High School, Atlanta, Mo. and Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. in 1953. Frank started in the insurance business in 1953 as an agent with Bankers Life and Casualty, and remained with Bankers Life and Casualty until his retirement on July 31, 2000. He continued in insurance as an independent agent from August 1, 2000 until the time of his death. He worked out of his office in Jefferson City doing business as Frank A. Sloan, A FASI Agency. Throughout his career, he received numerous professional awards and citations. In addition to his insurance business, he previously served on the board of directors of Capital Saving Bank, formerly Capital Savings and Loan, as an outside board member from February, 1984 until their merger with Union Planters Bank in July, 1988. He served on the advisory board of directors of Union Planters Bank of Mid-Missouri from July, 1998 until his retirement from the board in July, 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Certified Life Underwriters Assn. Frank enjoyed country music, fishing, and loved listening to Ernest Tubbs. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was an extremely generous person who helped others in a variety of ways. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Nell Sloan; four children, Linda L. Sloan Berry and her husband Doug of Festus, Mo., Babette Weiss and her husband Robert of Somers Point, N.J., Sheri Sloan of Jefferson City, Mo., and Price Andrew Sloan and his wife Caroline of Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Stewie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Sloan; and one sister, Mary Ann Sloan. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
