J. A. Buckman, 77, of Shelbina, Mo., passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Mo. He was born November 5, 1937, in Shelbina, Mo., the son of Julius Martin and Virginia Irene Saunders Buckman. J. A. was a 1955 graduate of Shelbina High School, 1959 graduate of Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo. and 1978 graduate of Banking School of the South. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Association and Old Clinton Catholic Cemetery, serving as caretaker. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a communion distributor. He served his country in the United States Army and Navy during the Vietnam War. J. A. was employed by Mercantile Bank for 28 years, serving as Board Director and MO Bankers Association Region 1 Chairman. He was also a member of Shelbina Business Men, Shelbina American Legion, Shelbina Jaycees, Shelby County Fair Association, Shelbina Library Board of Trustees, American Cancer Society and served as Eagle Scoutmaster. He was an avid stamp collector and compiler of cemetery records and genealogy. J. A. was very proud of the Shrine at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery that he financed. J. A. is survived by: two sisters, Sister Mary Jeremy (Mary Barbara) Buckman of St. Louis, Mo. and Bernadette Robison and husband Robert of Jefferson City, Mo.; four nephews, Robert Robison Jr. and wife Beth of St. Louis, Mo., Jim Robison and wife Kim of Germantown, Tenn., Don Robison and wife Jana of St. Louis, Mo. and Ron Robison and wife Amy of LaGrange, Ky.; two nieces, Pamela Buckman Dennis of Blue Springs, Mo. and Annette Buckman Hill and husband Gale of Quincy, Ill.; great-nieces and nephews, Robert's children, Abigail Robison, Suzanne Boerrigter and husband Steven and Diane Robison; Jim's children, Caroline and Kyle Robison; Don's children, Carly Antor and husband Adam, Megan, Paige and Haley Robison; Ron's children, Emily and Sean Robison; Pamela's children Charles Dennis III and wife Kjersten and Matthew Dennis; Annette's children, Jennifer Burgess and husband Matt, Susanne Hill, Katherine Aubrey and husband Paul; six great-great-nieces and nephews, Pamela's grandchildren, Charles IV, Caroline and Charlotte; Dennis and Annette's grandchildren, John and Mary Kate Burgess and Emily Aubrey. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Norbert Terence Buckman. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 pm at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina, Mo., with burial to follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Association or Donor's Choice.
