Gloria I. LaBoe Schneider

Mrs. Gloria I. LaBoe Schneider, age 89 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, October 12, 2015, at St. Joseph Bluffs of complications from Alzheimers disease. Gloria was born February 11, 1926, in Old Wooliam, Mo., the daughter of Benjamin Albert and Viola A. Hengstenberg Gawer. She was married on July 18, 1961, in Owensville, Mo. to Howard S. Schneider. Gloria graduated valedictorian of the Owensville High School Class of 1942, and became an employee of the Brown Shoe Factory. Later, she worked as a long-distance operator for American Telephone and Telegraph in St. Louis from 1946 until 1953. She married Benjamin F. LaBoe of St. Louis on November 6, 1946, in Owensville. They had two daughters, Nancy and Jeannine. Benjamin LaBoe was killed in an automobile accident on March 28, 1954. From 1959 until 1965, Gloria worked as a secretary at the Owensville Elementary School. From 1965 to her retirement on March 1, 1991, she held the position of Secretary to the Superintendent of the Jefferson City Public Schools. She was also Secretary of the Jefferson City Board of Education. Her retirement life was filled with activities as a member of the Central United Church of Christ of Jefferson City (Worship Committee, Elder, Consistory, Eleventh Circle, and Women's Fellowship) and volunteered with the American Cancer Society (where she was Chairperson of the Cole County Memorial Fund). She also spent time visiting the sick in nursing homes and hospitals. She was an avid reader, loved to work crossword puzzles, and was very proud of her geraniums and other flowers. In February, 2006, her family hosted a large banquet in honor of her eightieth birthday, in Jefferson City, that was attended by all her children and grandchildren, brothers-in-law, granddaughters-in-law and dozens of friends. Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, Howard Schneider; two daughters, Nancy LaBoe Ash of Hazelwood, Mo. and Jeannine LaBoe (John) Rogers of Evansville, Indiana; two step-children, Roger (Doris) Schneider and Lea Ann Schneider (Grant) Volkerding, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Heather Ash (Dominic) Cianciolo of Chicago, Illinois, Benjamin Ash of Hazelwood, Mo., John K. Rogers of Albany, Oregon, Paul (Kelli) Rogers of Poway, California, Amy (Bobby) Chen, Elizabeth Schneider, and Amanda Schneider, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Dean and Elora Cianciolo, Tyler Chen, Jack Rogers and Lillie Harrison. She was preceded in death by her first husband, and a sister, Norma I. West. Visitation will be at the Central United Church of Christ from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015, at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Rushan Sinnaduray. Private graveside services and entombment will the in the Mausoleum of the Owensville City Cemetery in Owensville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Scholarship of the Owensville High School Class Reunion, the American Cancer Society, or the Central United Church of Christ.
