Kenneth Lee Childress, 85, of Jamestown, Mo., departed this life on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, Mo., with loved ones by his side. He was born on November 15, 1928, in Lupus, Mo., the son of Harry N. and Cora Mae (Martin) Childress, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the sixth born of eight children. In Michigan, he met and married Dorothy Douras Stilson on October 19, 1967, and preceded him in death in September 2000. Kenneth was a member of the Lupus Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and also served in Korea. He graduated from Prairie Home High School. During his working years, Kenneth did construction work traveling many places. Kenneth was known as the family comedian and was always ready to share a laugh. He enjoyed coon hunting, listening to gospel and country music and watching old westerns. Everyone that knew him will remember his love for home cooked meals and a good bargain. He was an animal lover, enjoying the companionship of his many cats and dogs. He is survived by four sisters: Ethel Osborn of Jamestown, Mo., Hazel Lampton of Versailles, Mo., June Hayes of Kansas City, Mo. andRose Schulze of Jamestown, Mo.; one stepson: Don Stilson; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Harvey, Harold, Marvin Childress, and a step-daughter Pamela Stilson. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Grace United Methodist cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Tim Redmond. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lupus Baptist Church, or the Grace United Methodist Cemetery Fund c/o the funeral home.
