Geneva T. Plassmeyer

Geneva T. Plassmeyer, age 85, of St. Thomas, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center. She was born in St. Thomas on April 20, 1928, daughter of the late Thomas and Clara (Adrian) Schmidt. On September 27, 1949, in St. Thomas, Geneva married Roman Stephen Plassmeyer, who preceded her in death on November 27, 2006. Prior to her marriage, Geneva was employed at the St. Thomas Ball Factory. She and her husband, Roman, operated a dairy farm near St. Elizabeth until they retired in 1995. After retirement they moved from the farm to St. Thomas. There she assisted the St. Thomas quilting group by serving afternoon lunches on quilting days. Geneva was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed cooking for her family and took pleasure in gardening. She was proud of her children's accomplishments and extremely fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Geneva was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and a former member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality. She is survived by three sons, Denis Plassmeyer and wife Martha of St. Elizabeth, Daniel Plassmeyer and wife Paula of Loose Creek, and Dominic Plassmeyer and wife Mary of Meta; two daughters, Donna Luebbering and husband Harold of St. Thomas and Denise Plassmeyer of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Andrew Plassmeyer, Lori Bruce, Lisa Plassmeyer, Julie Smith, Danielle Plassmeyer, James Plassmeyer, Sandra Kloeppel, Lynn Taggart, and Angela Rowden; one step-granddaughter, Barbara Lauberth; seven great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eldora Hoecker and husband Sylvanus of St. Thomas; two brothers, Thomas Schmidt and wife Mary Ann of Florissant and Daniel Schmidt and wife Ellen of Jefferson City; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Wilde and Lorene Heckemeyer both of St. Elizabeth; one brother-in-law, Albert Plassmeyer and wife Florence of Meta; and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Frank Wilde and Fred Heckemeyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Fr. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m., with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, March 18, at the church. A morning visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Masses or St. Thomas the Apostle School.
