Thomas Raymond Carter, age 59, of Oklahoma City, Okla., passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, in the presence of family and friends after struggling with cancer. Born in St. Joseph, Mo., on July 12, 1954, Tom lived a life full of many blessings, just as he was a blessing to others. Tom was a graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic School. Tom spent over 25 years in Catholic education in Jefferson City at Helias High School and in Oklahoma City. He became well known and loved in the Oklahoma City Catholic community as a high school theology teacher at Mount Saint Mary High School. He lived a faithful life in the church at Christ the King parish and was ordained a deacon in October of 2013. Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather, guiding his family with the same steadfast faith, generosity, and distinctive sense of humor that he shared with all. Tom is survived by his wife, Karen M. Carter of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his mother, MaryAnn Carter of Linn, Mo.; his siblings, John Carter of Pennsylvania, Bob Carter of Jefferson City, Mo., Barbara Matthews of Kansas, Jim Carter of Jefferson City, Mo., Mike Carter of West Virginia, Ed Carter of Jefferson City, Mo.; his children, Brother Patrick Carter of Clear Creek Abbey, Okla., Sarah Baxa of Kansas, Breck Gastinger of Virginia and Laura Gosa of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, April 25 at 6 p.m. with the service and Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. All services will be held at Christ the King Church, 8005 Dorset Drive, Oklahoma City, Okla., followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery near Oklahoma City, Okla.
