Mariula Ann Rousselot, age 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Oak Tree Villa. Mariula was born October 17, 1931, in Joplin, Missouri, to Mary Anna Witcosky Nickell and William Anderson Nickell Jr. On January 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Richard Rene' Rousselot, who preceded her in death July 26, 2012. Mariula grew up in Joplin, Missouri, graduating from Joplin High School in 1949. Until her marriage to Richard, she worked at the First National Bank in Joplin. Afterwards she moved to Jefferson City and spent several years as a homemaker, caring for her children and being involved in their activities including home room mother, Brownie leader, Cub Scouts, sewing and creating dance costumes and assisting her husband with the First United Methodist girls softball team in the early 1970's. After her children got older, Mariula returned to the workforce, starting at Employment Security as a temporary employee and then at the Department of Corrections, where she worked for 16 and a half years as a clerk typist before retiring in 1993. Her other activities included joining the Jefferson City Symphony in 1967 as a cellist and serving as their treasurer for 32 years. Over the years, she was also involved in the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Jaycee Jills and Lionesses. But her first priority always remained the care of her husband and children, expanding later to her grandchildren and her special "angels", her great-grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Rachelle Masters and one son, Edward William Rousselot, both of Jefferson City. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Melissa Ann Rivers; one grandson, Richard Wesley Hays; one step-grandson, Ethan Patrick Masters; one great-grandson, Aden Michael Hoelscher; one great-granddaughter, Annelise Gale Rivers; and two step-great-grandsons, Logan and Liam Rivers. Her brother, William Anderson Nickell III also preceded her in death in 2007. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Vessell officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Symphony, P.O. Box 661, Jefferson City, MO 65102; or the educational fund for her great-grandchildren.
