Richard J. Sporleder

Richard J. Sporleder, 74, of Marshall, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at his home. Born April 19, 1939 in St. Cloud, Minn., he was the son of the late Howard W. (Bud) Sporleder and Margaret M. Jansky Sporleder. He was a graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School, Missouri Valley College in Marshall, and received his master's degree from Central Missouri State University. On October 20, 1962, he married Bernice Samson, who survives of the home. He worked as an auditor for MFA, an agent for the I.R.S., and was then a professor at St. Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. and Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, and owned and operated Sporleder Tax Service. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, did volunteer work with prison ministries, served as a Republican Committeeman, and was a member of the Pachyderm Club and the Jaycees. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Dr. Patrick Sporleder and wife Michelle of Lohman, Dr. Chris Sporleder and wife Deanna of rural Marshall, and Andrew Sporleder, Esq. and wife Nicole of Wardsville; 11 grandchildren: Alexandria, Victoria, Krista, Erich, Stephen, Jeremy, Benjamin, Rachel, Rebekah, Emily, and Alison; one sister, Joy Baty of Springfield; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in infancy; one brother, Howard N. Sporleder; and one nephew, Timothy H. Sporleder. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Gormley and Fr. George Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery. Prayer service will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or REC Prison Ministries.
