Edward Wankum, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at Adams Street Place. He was born June 9, 1929, in Wardsville, Missouri, a son of the late Frank C. and Philomena (Bisges) Wankum. On May 7, 1955, Ed was united in marriage to Jean Kleene in Jefferson City, who survives at the home. Ed was a graduate of St. Peters High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was co-owner of Al Scheppers Motor Company until his retirement in 1995. Ed was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and American Legion. Ed loved many things in life. He loved to fish, take walks, and spend time with his family. He was very popular with his grandchildren when he made all of their favorite cookies and "Grandpa Bread". Along with his wife, Jean, he is survived by seven children: Janice Orr (Sam) of Jefferson City, Mike Wankum (Cynthia) of Jefferson City, John Wankum (Lori) of Littleton, Colorado, Linda Paulsrud (Ron) of Lee's Summit, Barb Collens (Dennis) of Lee's Summit, Tom Wankum (Robin) of Lee's Summit, and Mark Wankum (Julie) of Taos; one brother: Greg Wankum (Doris) of Jefferson City; one sister: Mildred Coughlin (George) of Littleton, Colorado; 17 grandchildren: Shanna Wankum, Tony Wankum, Louisa Orr, Rachel Wankum, Angela Orr, Leah Wankum, Heather Wankum, Lucas Wankum, Tricia Wankum, Ben Collens, Sarah Paulsrud, Jennifer Collens, Nicole Collens, Krista Paulsrud, Jake Wankum, Lexie Wankum, and Kassidy Wankum. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Wankum and Rudy Wankum; and two sisters: Florence Wankum and Thersa Wankum. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2013, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. David Cox officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Samaritan Center.
