Alan William Atnip, 35, of Wardsville, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 5, 1978, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Alan Atnip and Judy Haslag Bentch. After a year and half, Alan lost his courageous battle with cancer. He fought this battle, much like he lived life, a competitive drive and indescribable heart. Alan married Kimberly Brandt, his high school sweetheart in 1999 and was an incredibly proud Dad to four boys, Nolan, Garrett, Justin and Michael. Alan's spirit and zest for life will live on through them. He was a 1996 graduate of Linn High School and was employed with RR Donnelly for nearly 15 years, thoroughly enjoying the men and women he worked with. Alan loved to play and/or watch nearly every sport. He was mostly passionate about basketball and football and spent many years coaching the youth of this community. He was a member of St Stanislaus Church in Wardsville. He loved his God, family and friends. He was also proud to be the godfather of four beautiful girls: Madison Klinge, Ava Williams, Lillian Thurman and Savannah Brown. He will be remembered as a fighter and a hero to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Along with his wife Kimberly and children: Nolan, Justin, and Michael, he is survived by his parents: Judy Bentch of Linn and Alan and Sherry Atnip of St. Peters; four siblings: Brandon Bentch (fiancÈe Lynnae Wolfe) of Hamilton, Illinois, Amanda Thurman (husband Thad) of High Ridge, Megan Garth of Jefferson City, and Taylor Atnip of St. Peters; paternal grandparents: Elsie Atnip of Greenville; maternal grandparents: Ted and Virginia Haslag of Linn; father and mother-in-law: Joe and Darlene Brandt of Loose Creek; three brothers-in-law: Ken Brandt (wife Barb) of Marshall, Steve Brandt (wife Julie) of Loose Creek, and Kurtis Brandt of Jefferson City; one sister-in-law: Darla Klinge (husband Linc) of Marshall; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son: Garrett Alan Atnip on January 4, 2005, and one niece, Maggie Brandt. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 27, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alan Atnip Children's Education Fund or Junior Falcon Football Club.
