Virginia Lee Buffington

Virginia Lee Buffington, 92, of Jefferson City, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Villa Marie Nursing Home in Jefferson City. She was born May 26, 1920, in rural McDonald County, Mo., near the small town of Coy. Virginia was the daughter of the late John Wesley Welty and Bertha Ellen (Walters) Welty. On June 21, 1940, she was united in marriage at Halltown, Mo., to Charles W. Buffington, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2006. Virginia was primarily a homemaker. She spent her working years as a caregiver in various hospitals and nursing homes in Central Missouri. She was an active member of Concord Baptist Church for 36 years. In her later years she enjoyed the fellowship of the Joy Sunday School Class. Virginia enjoyed reading, sewing, watching the Cardinals on TV and cooking for her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was fond of listening to her sons sing the National Anthem at ballgames and gospel songs at church. Virginia is survived by six sons: Wes Buffington of Springfield, Mo.; Jim (Mary Anne) Buffington of Mokane, Mo.: Don (Sharon) Buffington of Jefferson City, Mo.; Terry Buffington of Peoria, Ariz.; Randy (Deanna) Buffington of Lee's Summit, Mo.; Mark (Dianne) Buffington of Columbia, Mo.; a son-in-law: Danny Wenger of Versailles, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a son: William Ray Buffington; a daughter: Dorcas Wenger; three brothers; and six sisters. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 23, 2013. from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Houser Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Concord Baptist Church with Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
