Walter Benton Prentice, M.D., age 83, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Heisinger Bluffs, Jefferson City. He was born June 19, 1929 in Detroit, Mich., the son of (Francis) Walter Prentice and Ruth Howell Prentice. His education included: 1948 East Detroit High School Diploma, 1952 Univ. of Detroit, B.S. Degree, 1956 Loyola University by Stritch School of Medicine-Doctor of Medicine Degree, 1956-57 Internship St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Paul, Minn., 1965-66 Internal Medicine Minneapolis VA Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.., 1966-69 Radiology Minneapolis VA Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn., 1969-70 Neuroradiology University of Minnesota Hospitals, Minneapolis, Minn., 1970 Diplomate, American Board of Radiology (Diagnostic Radiology). His Academic Appointments include: 1969 Instructor, Dept. of Radiology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, 1971 Asisstant Professor, Dept. of Radiology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis 1972 Assistant Professor, Dept. of Radiological Sciences, University of Oklahoma, Tulsa 1978 Clinical Assistant Professor, Dept. of Radiological Sciences, University of Oklahoma, Tulsa 1985 Assistant Professor, Dept. of Radiology, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, Calif. Dr. Prentice was licensed in the following states: Ark., Calif., Iowa, Kan., Minn., N.D., Okla., and Wis. His Military Service included: Minnesota Army National Guard 1962-69 GMO, HHC 47th Infantry Division CPT 1970 -MAJ with the Co A, 204th Med. Bn. He is survived by: one sister: Betty Murphy of Minnesota; ex-wives: Charlotte Prentice of Minnesota and Rose Prentice of Oklahoma; children with Charlotte: Thomas Prentice of Minnesota and his wife Carrie Berg, John Scott Prentice of California and his wife Imelda "Mel" Prentice, and Patricia Edel and son-in-law Alan Edel of Minnesota; children with Rose: (from her prior marriage with Mr. Higgins): Michael Prentice of Oklahoma and his wife Paula Prentice and Steve Prentice and his wife Shaunna Prentice of Nevada; children with Rose: Jennifer Whitacre and son-in-law Shane Whitacre of Missouri; grandchildren: Christine and Cynthia Prentice (children of Thomas), Mitchell and Lorraine Prentice (children of John Scott), May and Maggie Edel (children of Pattie), Christopher, Crystal, and Cody Prentice (children of Michael), Stephanie Prentice (children of Steve), Kirsten, Shaylie, Brayden, and Auguste Whitacre (children of Jennifer); great-grandchildren: Layla Ziebert-Knouse and Seth Prentice (children of Stephanie). He was preceded in death by a sister: Jane Prentice (October 8, 1922); child: Mary Claire Prentice on June 24, 1964 (with Charlotte); grandchild: Justin Prentice on October 19, 2003 (child of Steve), great-grandchild: Lana Ziebert on March 17, 2007 (child of Stephanie); and spouse: Janis Gero Prentice on March, 2012. There will be no visitation or memorial service. Educational memorial scholarship is suggested to the Missouri National Guard Association Office.
