Bernard (BJ) Joseph Brenneke, 70, of Taos, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 24, 1943, a son of the late Vincent and Olga Wolters Brenneke. On October 3, 1964, BJ was united in marriage to Janette Braun, who survives at the home. BJ attended St. Francis Xavier School and was a 1960 graduate of Fatima High School. He was a roofer for Gentges and MO Builders prior to becoming a dump truck driver for Tony Kempker and Twehous Construction. He retired in 2000 to farm. BJ bowled for many years at Westgate Lanes. He liked hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin on the Osage River, and playing cards with his family. In addition to his wife Janette, he is also survived by his five children: Cindy Brenneke of Owensville, Wayne Brenneke of Taos, Lisa Lackman (Paul Jr.) of St. Thomas, Kristi Kemna (Greg) of Taos and Stephanie Brenneke of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren: Tadd Mertens, Jared and Haley Brenneke, Paul, Payton, Kendra and Tori Lackman, Tanner, Cole and Abbie Kemna, and Ethan and Dylan Peate. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Jeremy Secrist officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Relay for Life.
