Elizabeth M. McIlwain, 92, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Jefferson City Manor. She was born on April 3, 1921, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Gerhard and Caroline (Schlueter) Wekenborg. On July 4, 1942, Elizabeth was united in marriage to James R. McIlwain, who preceded her in death on July 28, 2000. Elizabeth attended St. Peter's Catholic School. She was department head of P.N. Hirsch and Company for 12 years. She was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality, Daughters of Isabella, volunteer teacher at Vogelweid Learning Center, Hoof-a-Thon breakfast volunteer, Life member of the VFW-Post 35 Ladies Auxiliary, Charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 and a Golden Eagle Auxiliary Lifetime Member. She held many offices in the Auxiliary and was the mother of the year twice. She volunteered many hours at numerous charity dinners. She was an avid bingo player and loved to fish. She is survived by her one son: Ralph McIlwain (Shirley); two daughters: Carol Schneider (Bill) and Suzie Rackers (special friend, Mark Brothers); one sister: Clara Bolden of Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: James R. McIlwain; one grandson: Addison McIlwain; one daughter-in-law: Celia McIlwain; four brothers: Monroe, Jim, Edward and Jerry Wekenborg; and three sisters: Loraine Lock, Catherine Rush and Frances Prenger. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Austin Okoli officiating. Interment will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Vogelweid Learning Center and St. Peter's Catholic Church.
