Alex M. Perez, 59, Springdale, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 13, 1953, to Alexander Jr. and Virginia Perez in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mr. Perez married Shelly Hicklin on February 22, 1986. She survives of the home. Alex had a career in law enforcement and corrections, including the St. Joseph Police Department. After his retirement, he worked in sales. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was a former member of the St. Joseph Fraternal Order of Police and the Missouri State Police Chief Association, a former volunteer for Cole County Sheriff's Department, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Alex was a published author, having written two novels, and was passionate about music, especially blue grass and country, and wrote many songs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife; daughters, Lindsay Katherine Perez, Kansas City, Kansas, and Hillary Robin Perez, of the home; granddaughter, Willow Alexandria Perez, of the home; sisters, Vickie McManus (Bill), Debbie Allison (Ron), and Joni Berry (Joshua); and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory in St. Joseph, Mo. Interment Rockhouse Prairie Cemetery, Frazier, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Monday. The family requests donations to be made to Missouri Department of Conservation, American Heart Association, or the charity of the Donor's Choice.
