Darlene E. Bonnot, age 72, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, at her home. She was born December 22, 1940, a daughter of Leonard Hugo and Angeline (Meller) Bonnot. Darlene was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, former member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and was a 1958 graduate of Helias Catholic High School. She attended Lincoln University, the University of Missouri, and Cornell University, with a major in accounting and minor in horticulture. She was employed with the IBM Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1995 as a Senior Administrator. Prior to that she worked for three years at Central Bank and four years for the State of Missouri, Department of Mental Health. At Cathedral of St. Joseph, she served on several parish committees and was past President of the Women's Association. She was a volunteer teacher at Vogelweid Learning Center. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph Choir and St. Peter Parish Choir. She was also a member of the local chapter of Sweet Adelines. Darlene was a certified Scuba Diver and Underwater Historian by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. She was a member of the Jacques Cousteau Society. She gave volunteer presentations on ocean coral reef marine life to classes at local schools through the Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education Program. She also gave presentations on ocean coral reef marine life to local civic organizations and Lincoln University Learning in Retirement classes. Darlene was a long-time member of the United States Figure Skating Association, and was certified by the USFSA as a gold level skater and instructor. She was a volunteer Ice Skating Instructor with the Jefferson City Park Board Program for several years. She was instrumental in the group who helped bring the ice arena to Jefferson City, and establish the Jefferson City Ice Skating Club. She assisted with several of the annual Ice Skating Shows. Darlene was certified as an Indoor Plant Consultant by Cornell University. She was a member of the Cornell University Horticultural Society. She served as Plant Booth Chairperson at Cathedral of St. Joseph and St. Mary's Health Center Auxiliary Bazaars for several years. She was a fund raiser for the Sheltered Workshop and for the United Way of Jefferson City. Darlene is survived by one sister: Jane Neuner (John) of Jefferson City; two brothers: Gerald Bonnot of Holt Summit and David Bonnot (Alice) of Jefferson City; two sisters-in-law: Lois Bonnot and Rita Bonnot; 18 nieces and nephews and 27 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Bonnot. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service to be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Private Interment Services will be held at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Holly Schaefer and Laura Schaefer Muscular Dystrophy Medical Fund or to the Vogelweid Learning Center.
