Dean L. Shorter

Mr. Dean L. Shorter, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Eldon, Mo., passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at Oak Tree Villas surrounded by his family. Dean was born on June 13, 1926, in High Point, Mo., a son of the late Dean E. and Eunice (Cartner) Shorter. He was married on November 29, 1952, in Eldon, Mo., to Norma L. Lueckenhoff. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Dean graduated from Eldon High School and attended Missouri State University and Lincoln University. He was employed with the Division of Family Services in Miller County for over 30 years and retired in 1996 as the Director. He also worked part-time as a driver at Opies Milk Haulers on the weekends for over 25 years. Dean was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Eldon and was active with the Eldon Lions Club. After retirement, Dean and Norma moved to Jefferson City to be closer to family. He cherished his grandchildren and his beloved dogs. Survivors include: his wife of over 60 years, Norma Shorter; his daughter, Jackie (Jim) Bohannan of Jefferson City, Mo.; his brother, Jack (Faye) Shorter of Claremore, Okla.; his grandchildren, Jimmy (Jessica) Bohannan, Wesley Bohannan, and Jessie Bohannan; and his great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Skylar Bohannan, and Madison, Caleb, and Kaytlin Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson, Rylan Lee James Bohannan. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
