Nana Margaret Cline Shields, 67, of California, formerly of Independence, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, at her residence following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 20, 1945, in Boonville, the daughter of Robert and Clara (Fisher) Cline. She was united in marriage on November 16, 1963, in Fayette, to Gary Shields, who survives of the home. Nana was a graduate of Jamestown High School. She was the owner/operator of Nana's Clip Joint beauty salon in Independence for many years and enjoyed a loyal, colorful, and varied clientele. She graced her family and friends with artful and tasty gifts from crochet and needlework to smoked meats and other great dishes and a lifetime of friendship. Her joy in life was spent in the company of her family and friends. Nana is survived by her devoted husband of almost 50 years, Gary Shields; one loving daughter, Kelli Dawn Shields Stephens of Bozeman, Mont.; five grandchildren, Colter, Cooper, and Stella Stephens of Montana, Steffanie Dawn Shields of Huntsville, Ala., and Rose Innes of the home; one great-grandchild, Keelie Aldrich of Ala.; two brothers, Gary Cline of Jamestown and Audie Cline of Jefferson City; three sisters, Janet Howard of Prairie Home, Jewel Harbor of Jamestown, and Kathy Case of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Clara Cline; her beloved son, Thomas "Tommy" Lee Shields; and two sisters, Delores Ash and Roberta Fricke. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date.
