Larry O. Hirschman

Larry O. Hirschman, Lt. Col. (Ret.) USAF, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Republic. He was born October 18, 1940 in Jefferson City, the son of Edward and Sadie (Burry) Hirschman. After completing high school, Larry entered and graduated from the University of Missouri with a business degree in 1962, and later earned his Master Degree, also in business. Larry served his county in the U.S. Air Force as a B-52 Navigator, retiring in 1985. Larry then took the position of production manager with a data processing corporation, retiring in 2000. After this retirement, he became a loved substitute teacher in the Jefferson City and Republic School Systems, earning him the nickname of "Mr. H" from the children, until his illness prevented him from working. Larry "devoured" books, and was a Civil War buff. He was a member and an Elder, at the Republic First Christian Church, and also a member of the Lions Club. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Judie Hirschman; six children; nine grandchildren; three siblings; other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. There will be a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 in the Calvary Baptist Church, Republic. The inurnment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
