Glen P. Kallenbach

Glen P. Kallenbach, 100, of Mexico, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico. Glen was born on January 30, 1913, in Tuscumbia, Mo., son of William and Cora (Thomson) Kallenbach. He attended school in Miller County, including Iberia Junior College. After graduating he taught school for three years in a local country school. After three years teaching he went back to college and received a B.S. Associated Medical Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1938 and his M.D. degree from Washington University, St. Louis in 1940. He then completed two years of post-graduate training at St. Luke's Hospital in St Louis. Glen served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served 42 months in the military services. He served a year each in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. On April 17, 1942, prior to the military, he married Nancy Charlotte Pipkin, in Fort Benning, Ga., who preceded him in death June 6, 1997. In 1946 Glen and Nancy moved to Mexico. On January 2, 1946, he began his medical practice in Mexico and retired in 1997 after 53 years. He also farmed for 50 years, and was a member of the Mexico School Board while McMillan and Hawthorne Elementary schools were being built. Glen was a member of the First Christian Church since 1946, there he was a deacon, elder, and elder emeritus. He was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, Missouri State Medical Society, American Medical Society and Audrain County Medical Society for 51 years. Dr. Kallenbach was dearly loved by his family, many friends and patients that he loved and cared for over the years. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Carr Han and husband, Sang Bong Han of the San Francisco Bay Area, Calif.; and Carol Clouse and husband, Gary Clause of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, Walter William Kallenbach, DVM and wife Kathleen of Bradenton, Fla.; Kenneth Glen Kallenbach, MD of Asheville, N.C.; and James Edward Kallenbach and wife Susie Buckner of Atlanta, Ga. In addition to his wife Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Katherine Jennelle Kallenbach; an infant son: John David Kallenbach; five brothers: Fredric Valentine Kallenbach, William Harry Kallenbach, Robert Wayne Kallenbach, Royal Gordon Kallenbach and Forrest Jean Kallenbach; five sisters: Ethel Pearl Kallenbach, Gola Lee Kallenbach, Lila Dean Gregory, Cora Elizabeth Wolverton and Kathyleen Yoder. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the First Christian Church with Rev. David Nash officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Park. Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
