Elaine Reiter, age 84, of Jefferson City, died on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Elaine was born on July 21,1928, in Ellsworth, Minnesota, to Esther and Jacob Reiter. In 1953, she graduated from Marquette University receiving a degree in Business Administration. She then went on to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia receiving Masters degrees in both Counseling and Public Administration. In 1964, Elaine began her career with counseling in St. Louis, working throughout the state of Missouri. In 1979, she became the Administrator of the State Social Workers for the Missouri Division of Aging, retiring in 1994. Elaine was an advocate for the elderly and represented Missouri at the first White House Conference on Aging in 1971. She received numerous awards and commendations for her advocacy, including recognition for her insight in establishing the program to prevent elder abuse for the State of Missouri. At her retirement from the Department of Social Services, Division of Aging, Elaine was applauded for her 25 years of outstanding leadership, commitment, and vision in developing and implementing policies and programs that have enhanced the lives of the Missouri elderly. She was committed to her Jefferson City community. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph, Daughters of Isabella, Central Investment Club, Westside Investment Club, X Club, the Red Hat Society, and a delegate to the Jefferson City Council of Clubs. Elaine was an avid bridge player and loved to travel. She will be lovingly remembered by two brothers: Daniel Reiter and wife Carol of St. Louis, Missouri, and Michael Reiter and wife Debi of Des Moines, Iowa, two sisters: Anita Gerth and husband Donald of Naples, Florida, and Annette Madden and husband Michael of Pasadena, California; a sister-in-law: Mary Reiter of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Lee Reiter. A Memorial Mass of Celebration will be held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2303 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Cathedral of St. Joseph or St. Mary's Hospice.
