Charles Calvin Christiansen Sr., better known as "Cal", age 79, of Jefferson City, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital, Jefferson City, Missouri. He was born on September 18, 1933, in Erick, Oklahoma, the son of Carl and Laura Christiansen, who preceded him in death. He graduated in 1952 from Sheridan Lake High School, Sheridan Lake, Colorado. He was married on November 30, 1952, in Sheridan Lake, Colorado to Estella (Splitter) Christiansen, who survives at the home. They became residents of Missouri soon thereafter. He has been a resident of Jefferson City since 1983. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 as a paratrooper. He made 13 jumps. In October, 1963, he completed Conservation Agent Training and was assigned to Benton County, Warsaw, Missouri. He worked as a Conservation Agent for several years, was promoted to the Field Investigation Unit as a Field Investigator, and later was promoted to Field Investigator Supervisor. He retired after almost 30 years with the Department of Conservation. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He made several trips to Canada on fishing excursions with family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in building many of the homes his family lived in, as well as other projects he took on. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends, especially when he hosted fish frys. He and his wife enjoyed "wintering" in Arizona every year and visiting with family and friends. He is famous for saying, "It doesn't get any better than this", as he sat in his lawn chair outside his RV. Survivors include: three children, Charles Calvin (Charlie) Christiansen Jr. of Jefferson City, Mo., Cheryl Thurston of California, Mo. and Vickie and husband Rocky Smith of Joplin, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was deeply interested in his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's education. He always stressed the importance of learning. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 @ 10:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church, 3724 West Truman Blvd., Jefferson City, Missouri.
