Mr. P. Pierre Dominique, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, July 2, 2013. He was born March 4, 1923 in Lisle, N.Y., the son of P. Dominique and Germaine Marie Tanguy. He was married September 1, 1947 in Denver, Colo., to Elaine F. Courtney, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2012. He resided in Missouri since 1949 and had been a resident of Jefferson City since 1954. He graduated in 1949 from Regis University in Denver, Colo. with a B.S. cum laude and a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Law in 1952 with a J. D. cum laude. At law school he was editor of the St. Louis University School Law Journal, elected to Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, and the Order of the Woolsack, law honor society. He had been in the general practice of law since 1952. He served as President of the Cole County Bar Association in 1957-58, President of the Missouri Bar in 1979-80, President of the Trustees of the Missouri Bar, President and member of the Missouri State Board of Law Examiners from 1975-86, Missouri State Delegate to House of Delegates to the American Bar Association and past governing member of the Air and Space Forum of the American Bar Association. He was the author of a number of legal articles published by the Missouri Bar Journal, the Missouri Bar Continuing Legal Education Program, the St. Louis University Law Journal and other legal articles published in medical journals. He was awarded by the Missouri Bar the Spurgeon Smithson Award for extraordinary service toward the increase and diffusion of justice in society, the Presidential Award, the Award of Excellence from the Association of Continuing Legal Education Administrators, the Award of Distinction from the St. Louis University School of Law and the St. Louis University Alumni Award in recognition of distinguished achievement in the field of law. He was elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Fellow in the American College of Trusts and Estate Counsel and the Missouri Bar Foundation. He was a member of St. Peter Church and a member and a director of the St. Peter Parish and Education Foundation. He served as Chairman and member of the Jefferson City Zoning Commission for 17 years, as a member of the Board of Adjustment, as General Chairman of the United Fund, a member of the Salvation Army Board, a Counselor with the Boy Scouts, and served 20 years as President and Chairman of the Board of Still Regional Hospital. He served as a pilot in the Unites States Army Air Force from 1942-47. During World War II, he flew 70 bombing missions in the European Theatre of Operations. He received the European Theater Medal with 7 battle stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Medal with 7 oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He attained rank of Captain. He was also an instrument commercial single and multi-engine pilot and flew until 2007. Survivors include: five children, John Dominique of Columbia, Mo., Joseph Dominique of Corpus Christi, Texas, James Dominique of Overland Park, Kan., Andrea Suzanne Grogan of Portland, Ore., and Robert Dominique of Jefferson City, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2013, at St. Peter Church with the Reverend Gregory L. Meystrik officiating. Gravesides services and interment with full military honors will be conducted at Resurrection Cemetery.
