Nellie Brooks Helton, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born February 14, 1922, in Bagnell, Mo., a daughter of Merrill and Stella Workman Robinett. On June 28, 1940, in Jefferson City, Nellie was united in marriage to Robert R. Helton, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2006. They were married for 65 years, spending the first 25 years of marriage in Eldon, Mo., and later moving to Jefferson City, for the remaining years. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Nellie graduated from Post Oak School, near Bagnell, Mo. She was employed at Still Hospital and Interco from 1972-1984. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City and was an active member of her Sunday School Class. She loved meeting and having fellowship gatherings with her Sunday school friends. She was a great hostess, and was known for her peach and cherry cobblers, wilted lettuce, and her many fish fries with her large family of brothers and sisters. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, socializing, and especially taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nellie is survived by two sons, Larry Helton of Etterville, Mo., and Dennis Helton (wife Carolyn) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Gerald Robinett of Barnett, Mo.; four grandchildren, Greg Helton of Jefferson City, Mo., Tracy Topper of Evansville, Ind., Justin Helton (wife Amy) of New Bloomfield, Mo., and Zach Helton of Jefferson City, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Everett and Noah Salke of Evansville, Ind., and Jackson Helton and Joshua Helton of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Helton; her son, Leon Helton; and 12 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at First Baptist Church with her son, Pastor Dennis Helton officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eldon Cemetery in Eldon, Mo. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church.
