LaVerna M. Perrey

LaVerna M. Perrey, 93, of Holts Summit, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born September 17, 1919, in Hinton, Iowa, a daughter of the late Joseph O. and Ruth Ann (Parker) Newberry. She was a 1938 graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. On December 24, 1937, LaVerna was united in marriage in Independence, Missouri, to Edgar E. Perrey Sr., who preceded her in death on September 8, 2005. LaVerna was Co-Owner and Bookkeeper for her and her husband's business, Edgar Perrey Grading & Excavating from 1946 until 2002. She was also one of the original co-owners of Capital Speedway in Holts Summit. LaVerna was a member of Community of Christ Church in Jefferson City. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the PTA, and the Holts Summit Civic Association. She loved to read and watch soap operas. Most of all, she loved her family. LaVerna is survived by five children: Edgar E. Perrey Jr. (wife Beverle) of Dripping Springs, Texas; Shirley A. Grice (husband John) of Ballwin; Dennis W. Perrey (wife Donna) of Innsbrook; David L. Perrey (wife Marion) of Holts Summit; and Lois J. Thayer (husband Michael) of Jefferson City; 13 grandchildren: Bethaney Caldwell (husband David) of Dripping Springs, Texas; Edgar E. Perrey III (wife Rebecca) of Austin, Texas; Bradley Scrivner (wife Angie) of Holts Summit; Barry Scrivner (wife Melissa) of Olathe, Kan.; Brent Scrivner (wife Shelly) of Jefferson City; Lori Myers of Ballwin; Ryan Grice (wife Gloria) of St. Louis; Dennis Perrey Jr. (wife Terri) of Warrenton; Ryan Perrey of O'Fallon; Christopher Perrey (wife Lindsay) of Leawood, Kan.; Victoria Lyskowski (husband Peter) of Jefferson City; Shannon Frank (wife Amy) of New Bloomfield; and Jody Frank (husband Shannon Webster) of Ashland; 30 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Ruthella Johnson of Independence. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Stella Sitton and Jeanette Mullinix; and one brother: Joseph L. Newberry. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit, with High Priest David Griffith and Elder Robert Ryder officiating. Interment will follow in Meng-Perrey Cemetery on the Edgar E. Perrey Farm in Holts Summit. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Community of Christ Church or to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
