Mrs. Bette R. Scott, age 89 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Bette was born March 20, 1923, in Knob Noster, Mo., the daughter of Harry A. and Gladys Breeden Thurston. She was married on October 11, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., to Edward A. Scott, who preceded her in death on April 25, 2006. She moved to Jefferson City in 1923 and was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson City High School. Bette was employed as a Secretary in the Missouri House of Representatives for a number of years and was later employed with the Missouri Workmen's Compensation Dept., retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1923 and was also a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. She was a former Reach to Recovery Volunteer, served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Missouri Alzheimers Assn., and was a member of the American Assn. of Retired Persons and the Missouri State Employees Assn. Survivors include: one son, David L. Scott and his wife, Kathy, of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Ruth Ann Scott and her husband, Len Paccione, of Lowell, Mich.; three grandchildren, Heather Wolken and her husband, Rodney, Katy Schamberger and her husband, Rob, and Adam Ryan and his wife, Danielle; and four great-grandchildren, Chad Wolken, Connor Wolken, Cooper Wolken, and Brileigh Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Helen Addison. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Assn., the American Cancer Society, or the Special Learning Center.
