Floyd DeWane Leathers, 76, of Mendon, Mo., passed away Friday, February 15, 2013, in Peoria, Ariz. DeWane was born in College Mound, Mo., on November 15, 1936, the son of the late Claude and Julia White Leathers. DeWane served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He owned/operated Leathers Champlin Service in Macon until 1977. DeWane served many years as Chief of Police, Macon, Mo., retiring in 1994. DeWane married Louise Key in Macon, Mo. on July 12, 1959. Louise preceded him in death on March 14, 1994. On October 28, 2000 he was united in marriage to Edith Ann Walton, Mendon, Mo. DeWane is survived by his wife, son, Donnie Leathers (Anjie) and granddaughters, Taylor Leathers and Talisha Cheshire of Jefferson City, Mo., and Tanjie Cheshire Hoover (Danny) and seven great-grandchildren of New Franklin, Mo.; daughter, DeAnn Peak (Brian), one granddaughter, three grandsons and three great-grandchildren of St. Charles, Mo. DeWane is survived by two step-daughters, one step-son, nine step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Claude Leathers of the state of California and many nieces and nephews. DeWane was preceded in death by two sisters, Monte Burch and Carla Johnson. Visitation will be held in Macon, Mo. on Saturday, February 23, at Hutton and McElwain from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial with full military honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery of Macon. A visitation will also be held in Mendon, Mo. at the United Methodist Church on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following.
